Great Northern Arts Festival
The 29th Annual Great Northern Arts Festival / Under the Midnight Sun. July 14-23, 2017
Every summer for the past 28 years, folks have gathered in the vibrant town of Inuvik to celebrate the diverse artistic traditions of the North. With their talent and art, carvers, painters, traditional artists, jewelers, fashion designers and multimedia artists, transform the Recreation Complex into a world-class art exhibition.
Visitors are drawn to the festival, not only because of the uniqueness of the area, but because of the uniqueness of the festival. They come to celebrate the rich history of the event and marvel at the brilliant artwork. They travel from far and wide to interact with the artists and spend time in workshops, learning firsthand the intricacies and painstaking attention to detail that goes into every item in the Gallery.
The Great Northern Arts Festival (GNAF) is the only pan-northern arts festival in Canada and has been uniting art makers with art lovers for over 27 years. This 10-day event features up to 80 artists and 40 performers, a 4000-piece gallery and the opportunity to work alongside local artisans during hands-on workshops. Carving, textiles, sewing, jewelry, performing arts, arctic fashion and northern culture will be on display throughout the entire event. Stay one day or ten, there is a little something for everyone in this unique gathering of talent and culture.
