Aboriginal Fall Cultural Tour and Aurora Viewing
Experience the Land and Watch the Skies

Experience genuine Aboriginal culture! The fall season is moose season, learn about moose and how important this animal has been to the Northern aboriginal people’s survival through the years. You will see the clothing made from moose hide and learn about the moose hide tanning process.

To start off your adventure, you will enjoy a nice hike through the wilderness to a trapper’s tent for some delicious bannock and bush tea. While there you’ll get to listen to your Aboriginal guide talk about living in the tent you are in and what life was like in the old days, surviving off the land. You’ll be able to walk the trapline and learn about the animals in the area and watch your Aboriginal guide set authentic snares and traps. As you go you’ll see the furs that have been trapped: wolf, lynx, fox and wolverine.  After your afternoon on the land, rest up in your comfortable hotel room and get ready for your exciting evening of Aurora Hunting.

Yellowknife is the best place in the world to view the Aurora and there are many different ways and options to view the spectacular Northern Lights!  If you want to watch the Aurora with a small group and away from the city, then Aurora “hunting” is for you.  You will travel by van outside of Yellowknife and track down the best view point to watch the Aurora Borealis. During your hunting tour, you will hear more Aboriginal stories and learn about the science and the legends behind the Aurora in the north.  Hunting for the Northern Lights is a more personalized Aurora viewing experience. Your “hunting” guide will also be happy to offer their assistance to help you set up your camera so you can take wonderful, once in a lifetime photos of the brilliant light show. So grab a comfortable folding chair, or, just rest on a Canadian Shield rock, look up and enjoy the stars and the brilliant explosion of colour that are the Aurora Borealis!
